Situated in the southeast corner of the state, Sioux Falls is blessed to experience all four seasons of the year in all their glory.
The colors of Autumn are on full display in Sioux Falls, as the leaves begin to turn in the myriad of parks and green spaces that dot the city. The sight of a huge, golden Harvest Moon hanging serenely in the crisp, clear evening air, epitomizes the beauty of Fall on the plains.
Winter turns Sioux Falls into a true Winter Wonderland. Moderate snowfall offers numerous opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Sledding, ice skating, snowmobiling, tubing, skiing, and snowboarding are all available to residents to explore. Lakes in the area also offer some of the best ice fishing in the Midwest.
Spring in Sioux Falls highlights the explosion of new life, as the parks and greenways burst into new growth. Downtown streets abound with flowers, while new leaves give Sioux Falls a verdant canopy of lush green.
Summer in Sioux Falls is about exploration and celebration. Parks and pools, bike trails, summer sports and dozens of music and cultural festivals give residents every opportunity to enjoy the world around them.
The beauty of nature is always on display in Sioux Falls. Whatever season you love the most, you'll find it on full display in Sioux Falls.
When people ask me what my favorite season of the year is I often have a hard time deciding. One of the many benefits of living in Sioux Falls is the ability to experience all four seasons. While some would say certain seasons are better than others, I would say there is something beautiful to be seen in every South Dakota winter, spring, summer, and fall.
One of my favorite things to do in the winter is head to Falls Park (which is great in every season). I love seeing the falls change from water to complete, solid ice. Add in the incredible light display and the Christmas music and I'm as cheerful as Buddy the Elf on Christmas morning. The city truly becomes a winter wonderland.
As much as I like winter, I equally enjoy watching the snow melt and the trees come back to life. Sioux Falls is filled with many different parks that can be enjoyed in the spring time. I love walking on the bike trails and only having to wear a light jacket. As the anticipation of summer arises, I love taking in the freshness of the air during the springtime.
Sometimes I get overwhelmed with how much there is to do in Sioux Falls in the summer time! From music festivals, to First Fridays, to Fair week - the city never stops. Ever since I was a child, I've loved going to Wild Water West Waterpark in the summer time. From the drop off slides to the lazy river and swim up bar, there's something to be enjoyed for all ages of life. I also enjoy the summer music scene in Sioux Falls. There's a great selection of outdoor concerts and I'm super excited to have access to over 50 free concerts a year when the Levitt at the Falls project is complete in 2019.
Although the season is usually short, fall is an enjoyable time to be outside and watch the leaves change colors. A great place to be in the fall is the Country Apple Orchard where you can do anything from picking pumpkins and apples to visiting the animals at the petting zoo. Fall doesn't get any better than that.
I'm so blessed by the seasons we get to experience here in South Dakota and Sioux Falls especially. This is the Heart of America!
